Camp ABC

CAMP ABC 2022

In the Camp-ABC we have summarized how we imagine the togetherness on the Climate Camp Leipziger Land. As long as we do not decide anything else we wish that the Camp-ABC will be respected by all participants.

AWARENESS

Awareness is intended to draw attention to discrimination, to support those affected and to provide an opportunity for mutual empowerment and reflection. Also in self-organized political groups that are critical of sovereignty, we do not move outside of social relations and can unconsciously reproduce discrimination. On the way to the utopia of a liberated society, we all have to take responsibility and confront our positions and privileges – Awareness concerns us all!

In order for everyone to feel as comfortable and safe as possible at the climate camp, there will be

an awareness team and concept (available in the information and awareness tent). We hope that you will accept and implement the suggestions of the awareness concept. Since we are in a continuous learning process, we are very grateful for your feedback (e.g. via our mailbox)!

At the camp we are reachable around the clock by phone under the number +491778618001. Usually, you can find us in the awareness tent during the day. During the bar hours and the evening cultural events you will recognize us by our pink armbands. Feel free to call us at the number mentioned above or talk to us directly.

BARRIERS

Klimacamp | Direkte Aktion gegen KlimachaosWe want all people to be able to participate in the camp and feel welcome. You are very welcome to contact us in advance, so that we can find solutions and clarify questions together. On site you can do so at the info tent.

There is a bicycle path through the camp, which is passable for wheelchairs – but in case of persistent rain it might be difficult. Low barrier tent possibilities are indicated or can be inquired at the info tent. Furthermore, there is a low barrier toilet and a low barrier shower. If you need medication (e.g. Insulin) that needs to be refrigerated, feel free to contact the info tent.

CAMP CONTRIBUTION and DONATIONS

The camp is supported by donations and contributions. These can be given at the info tent. The amount can also be transferred to our donation account. The guideline for overnight stay and vegan kitchen is 8 to 15 euros per day. The idea is that all participate according to their financial situation. One thing is certain: participation is not decided on basis of money. Each contribution helps us. Thank you very much for your support!

CHILDREN / YOUNG PEOPLE

Children and young people are very welcome at the climate camp. There will be a children’s tent with

various activities and organized chaperones for the workshop times. (Sign up for the

shift plan!) The legal responsibility remains with the parents or caregivers.

CLIMATE CAMP LEIPZIG LAND

Climate camps are a centerpiece of the climate justice movement and consist of the four pillars of education, networking, alternative forms of living together and direct action. The Leipziger Land climate camp has been around since 2018, when we organized a camp in Pödelwitz and were able to contribute to save the village from the coal excavators!

Since last year we focus thematically on the airport Halle/Leipzig, because a few struggles meet there, against expansion of air traffic in times of climate crisis, racist deportations, noise pollution due to more and more night flights and night flights as well as weapons transports and military.

CORONA

Even though the Corona measures are not as strict as last year, it is still still important to protect each other. Therefore we ask you to come tested to our Camp. If you are staying longer at the camp, please test yourselves regularly every 2 days. If you have a positive result after your stay with us, call the info tent as soon as possible. Also, FFP2 masks will be worn in the tents. Please pay attention to the wishes of the people around you and keep your distance (especially in queues for food or toilets). Wash and disinfect your hands regularly. If you don’t want to do tests and masks in tents, you unfortunately cannot participate in our camp.

DIRECTIONS and LOCATION

The camp will take place in the municipality of Rackwitz at the Schladitzer Bucht (the east side of the Schladitzer See) – north of Leipzig and about 8 km from the airport. Please organize your journey on your own and leave your car at home if possible. By bike you can easily cycle from Leipzig and you will be there in about 1 hour.

The journey by train again from Leipzig Hbf takes about 45 minutes. The next S-Bahn stop is “Rackwitz” – and from there the so called FLASH bus leaves every hour and it goes directly to the Schladitzer Bucht. From the entrance to the Schladitzer Bucht there will be a signposting to the climate camp set up. If the journey from the train station is a big hurdle, please contact us.

DOGS

Please travel without a dog if possible. We have limited space and it is difficult to avoid dogs. There is a leash requirement throughout the area. If this is not ok for your dog, please leave them at home. Dogs are not allowed in the workshop tents.

FIRE

Please do not light your own fire. (Danger of forest fire!)

FIRST AID and EMERGENCY

We will work with you to make sure the camp runs safely, but in case of medical problems of a physical or mental nature, you are invited to contact the medical tent. There is someone available or reachable by cell phone and can give you advice or small treatments. If your medical problem is too big for the climate camp, we will find together with you the appropriate help. The Camp-Paramedics can be reached under: 0170 90 91 016.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, please check before your arrival if you have the necessary medicines/materials and contact us if you have any questions or uncertainties.

FOOD and DRINK

There will be food for all camp participants and guests. For ecological and political reasons, animal products will not be used. This food is considered in your camp fee. The kitchen will need help with chopping and washing up (sign up for the shift plan!).

ATTENTION: After a toilet shift (or if you are sick) you are not allowed to help in the kitchen for 5 days! Please disinfect your washed, dry hands before serving food and remind your neighbors to do so.

If you suffer from food allergies or other intolerances, please sign up on the list at the kitchen tent. We will try to find an alternative for you. We have to make transparent that a trace-free cooking on the camp is not possible and with our capacities we will not be able to cover all allergies.

You can buy drinks at the BasisBar at noon and at the bar in the evening.

In addition to the Küfa, there will also be a few independent food stalls. Since these people are traveling to provide us with goodies, there will be extra recommendations for donations.

GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY, BASISBAR and PLENARIES

We want to shape our climate camp together and make decisions in consent. The central place for decision-making processes and camp organization on the camp is the BasisBar. If you have a wish for the camp, this is your first point of contact. Here you can find out when and where the plenary sessions of the different working groups will take place. Feel free to come.

The camp plenary will take place from 17:30 to 18:30 o’clock in the Basisbar, people who want to help decide and organize are invited. If you have a topic for the camp plenum, let us know beforehand at the Basisbar. At 17:15 there will be a small How To-Plenum.

Parallel to the breakfast there will be the Müslimagazin from 8:30 to 9:30 in the morning. Here you can listen to the most important news about the camp, music or short lectures.

INFO TENT

The info tent is your first point of contact: Here you will find information about the camp, the

program, many stickers and info material as well as the cash desk for the camp fee. You can also get small things like toothbrushes, handkerchiefs, tampons, earplugs etc. for a donation. If you have questions about any topic at the camp, please contact the info tent or call this phone number: 0163/7978137

INTERNET and ELECTRICITY

The camp will be mainly self-sufficient with solar power. We will try to holf the purchase of electricity from the grid as low as possible and as ecological as possible. There will be an internet connection in some areas of the camp. As with electricity, this is only available to a limited extent,

the camp operation has priority. If necessary, cell phones etc. can be charged in the info tent.

INTERPRETING

In order to break down language barriers, we will make every effort at the camp to ensure that

as much content as possible will be interpreted. A large part of the workshops will be held in German and some in English (see program). Our goal is to have all workshops and plenary sessions in English and German and, if necessary, other languages can be organized by yourself (the participants) with whisper interpretation.

During the events in the main stage (plenary sessions, panel discussion) we have interpretarion via microphon and headphones in German, English and Spanish; for other languages, please contact us in advance or organize your own whispering interpreters.

LAKE and BATHING

We would like to see considerate behavior when swimming at the lake. Some people are uncomfortable with skinny dipping. We ask that you only swim nude in extra designated nudist areas.

Please note that the beach is a few meters north of the camp. In the beach section directly next to the camp you should not swim for safety reasons. (Former open pit mine → danger of slipping).

LOCKS

White people with locks should cover these at the climate camp. Therewith we want to take seriously and strengthen the perspective of systemically discriminated people at the climate camp – like people affected by racism. “Because many BPoC will never feel comfortable at the climate camp with so many white people with dreads running around.”(Quote from feedback on past camps)

At the camp there will be opportunities for further exchange on the topic in the form of of info material, workshops and conversation opportunities, representing different perspectives on the topic.

NAKEDNESS

We would like the camp to be a place where we confront and reflect on privileges and mechanisms of sovereignty. Therefor we have the compromise, that all people at the camp clothe their upper bodies. We would like that “top-with-debate” starts a learning process for all of us – especially for cis* men – and to have an exchange about privileges. (Cis” is the opposite term to “trans” and refers to people who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.)

Of course, this suggestion does not apply to children – every child (or their caregivers) should decide for themselves how they want to walk around. If you have any questions, please contact the Awareness Team.

NOISE

A considerate coexistence on the camp area and with the neighborhood is an important concern for us. Therefore there is a quiet time starting at 22:00 o’clock, Saturday (hopefully) at 23:00 o’clock. For families and people with special sleeping needs there is a separate tent area. Please be aware of the other camp participants and residents.

PHOTOS, FILM and PRESS

A sensitive handling of video and photography is important for a trustful atmosphere at the camp. This means: Whenever you want to take your camera out, people must be informed and asked for permission in advance. This also applies for the press. Contact the Press or Awareness AG if you do not feel comfortable.

There will be press times when journalists will have access to the “public life” areas of the camp. These press times will be posted at the press tent. Large-scale shootings are then also possible spontaneously. In the private spaces (workshop tents, the retreat areas, the areas for young people, the sleeping areas, etc.) filming and snapping is prohibited for everyone. If you are unsure, always ask if it is okay for people around you.

The Press AG takes care of press representatives on the camp. Since the AG cannot have its eyes

eyes everywhere at the same time, we ask you to direct press representatives to the press tent. If you want to give an interview to the press, please answer as a private person.

PARTICIPATION

The camp only works if everyone participates! In the BasisBar you find a shift schedule where you can sign up for cutting vegetables, cleaning toilets or for childcare. Please do one shift per day on average!

In the Kampkümmerei from 14 to 15:30 you have time to take care of the camp (or yourself). An overview of upcoming tasks can be found in the BasisBar. In addition, there are also AG plenaries, to which all are invited who want to look behind the scenes of the camp organization.

POLITICAL PARTIES

Please keep in mind: The camp is independent from political parties and not a campaign event for anyone.

SETTING UP and DISMANTLING

We are a self-organized camp and that also means that we all have to work together for the construction and dismantling. The set-up starts on 19.07.2022, the dismantling starts on 31.07.2022 and will go until 03.08.2022. There will be a daily plenary session at 9 a.m. during the set-up and dismantling periods, where tasks will be distributed.

RETREAT LOCATIONS

There are several designated retreat locations on camp. Please respect that people want to relax from the – sometimes very exhausting – daily camp routine. For more information, please refer to the Awareness Concept.

SAFETY

Not all people share our beliefs, goals and utopias. For this reason, we have to be prepared for disturbances of the camp. On the public areas there may also be contact with police officers. There will be a security concept and contact persons. The team will be available around the clock.

around the clock. In order for the security concept to work at all we need your cooperation, e.g. in night watches. When, where and how you will find out at the info tent.

In case of weather events like storms, heavy rain etc. we ask you to stay calm. In urgent cases we will meet in a spontaneous plenary to discuss the next steps.

SANITARY FACILITIES

There will be dry toilets, squat and stand-up urinals and showers on the campgrounds. Please keep drinking water stations and sinks separate. Please use water sparingly and use only biodegradable soaps, and shampoos, which are also available in the information tent.

In the dry toilets please follow the instructions. The cleaning of the Toilets will be done together (Sign up for the shift schedule!).

SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS

We would like to see a sensitive approach to the use of any drugs. Please be aware that public consumption can exclude and endanger others. So please pay attention if your consumption of (e-)cigarettes, alcohol or other mind-altering substances is okay for the people in your immediate environment. We generally wish that no chemical drugs are consumed on the camp.

For health, safety and security reasons, there is a general smoking ban on the tent areas of the camp. Please smoke only in designated smoking areas! In addition, no drugs are to be consumed in the food area during meals and in the children’s area. The areas should not be used by people under the influence of drugs.
